Third Gear was our inaugural mural project, and it continues to hold deep meaning for us and the community of East Palmdale. Painted on the side of Andy’s Auto Parts, a local staple in the lowrider community, the mural blends symbolism, storytelling, and cultural pride. Three sets of hands guide the viewer through generations: a child’s hand reaching for lowriders in playful wonder, two hands locked in a firm handshake of unity within the rising sun, and an elder’s hand gently welcoming a monarch butterfly, symbolizing growth, transformation, and ancestral wisdom. The “Eastside Palmdale” lettering, designed in the style of a California license plate, anchors the piece with a strong sense of place. Set against a desert sunrise and open road, the mural pays tribute to the families who call this region home, celebrating the cycles of life, memory, and movement that drive this community forward.

The community paint day for Third Gear was one of the most powerful moments in the mural’s creation. Local lowrider crews showed up in full force, rolling in with their cars, families, and stories. Kids picked up brushes alongside parents, and longtime community members contributed strokes of color while music and laughter filled the air. It was more than just a paint day. It was a cultural gathering that honored Palmdale’s spirit of unity, creativity, and pride. The turnout transformed the parking lot into a celebration of neighborhood identity, with generations working together to leave their mark on a wall that reflects who they are and where they come from.

Local artist State brought his signature style to the project, masterfully painting the custom cars that bring motion and life to the piece. The mural also features fine detail work by Krazy Kustoms, also known as Peter Krazys, whose touch on the Impala added a layer of authenticity and craft that lowrider enthusiasts will immediately recognize. Together, these collaborations helped make Third Gear a true community landmark.
